Three years following the worldwide success of their 2001 debut album Simple Things, Zero 7's Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker return stateside with their warm and absorbing follow-up full-length When It Falls. Staying true to their unique and immediately identifiable electronic soul sound, the new songs are filled with lush ambient soundscapes, vibrant strings, soul-searching vocals and the rare groove basslines that earned the first record the prestigious accolade from Spin magazine: "The babymaker LP of the year. A creamy continuum of dreamadelic soul. 9 of 10."
Many of the new songs on When It Falls are influenced by Sam and Henry's experiences on this side of the pond, especially in our dusty American record shops. "It's all we did on tour," explains Henry. "We'd arrive in a town, wander around for half an hour and find a shop with ancient studio equipment and beautiful old gear sitting on crates and crates of records." Many of these finds made their way onto the tracks, but nowhere near as much as the first go around. "This record is more live than the last one; there are samples but this time we just used them to add a bit of dirt and flavor."
