Azeem and the Variable Unit
|
After the success of the dissent "Bleeding Together" remixes by Kaskade & DJ Eli, Wide Hive returns with the next 12-inch off of the highly anticipated album Wide Hive Remixed. This time around the focus is on DJ Design?s remix of "Mirrors on Sand" featuring Azeem, which was originally taken from DJ Zeph's debut album. On the flipside we have the Variable Unit Remixes courtesy of Rockskins with Rubix & Wide Hive's own DJ Zeph.
DJ Design, who is one third of Bay Area hip-hop group Foreign Legion and part of the Stones Throw family, provides us with a bouncy hand-clapping beat featuring reworked lyrics courtesy of Azeem. This cut will definitely get dancefloors moving and has a good uptempo feel to it. As a bonus the instrumental is included that highlights the top-notch production.
Flip over and check out Rockskins remix of Variable Unit's "Seven Grain" featuring the emerging MC known as Rubix (Fat Beats). Rockskins a.k.a. Jon Abrahams is best known for his acting roles in films like Meet the Parents and Boiler Room, and now shows that he is just as talented behind the drum machine as he is on screen. On the track we have another talented cat named Rubix who has been ripping the Mic since his debut on Lone Catalysts' "Due Process" which also featured Talib Kweli. Look out for Rubix's latest 12" on Fat Beats Records called "Get it Crack'n" b/w "Going Out."
DJ Zeph has been hot off the heals of his successful 12" called "Floor Wax" Featuring Raashan Ahmad from Crown City Rockers. Zeph returns for remix duties on Variable Unit's "Dr. J. Dub." Zeph takes the original track and turns it into a really dubby affair with added horns and organ playing to round out this superb single.
