biography

They have arrived, the stunning, mental rock from Suffrajett ready to give us a taste of what’s real. Front woman Simi heads this fantastic new band from NYC, called Suffrajett. To describe them is to dig your own grave, but here goes…they are punk maintaining pop melodies…there we did it. Simi sings like a sexually possessed demon, supported by a great band which includes: guitarist Jason Chasko who previously co-wrote with Liz Phair.

Suffrajett push out sliced-from-the-bone rock and roll – thoroughly hook-driven (via grunge), but a bit dirty and dark. It’s atop this devil's food music that Simi thickly spreads her sugary pop-styled, Joan Jett-fucking-Lenny Kravitz vocals. The gigs are devastating and everyone falls in love with Simi the striking exotic hypnotic wailer (think Grace Jones meets Deborah Harry).

Check out what Esquire had to say: "low-fi grunge hair metal, which is kind of like calling someone a pragmatically cynical optimist...you will like this album if you tend to be frightened by the women you are attracted to."

Suffrajett have been influenced by a motley plethora of musical mentalists from the Eagles Of Death Metal to the Supremes with a sprinkle of The Carpenters and Black Sabbath and heaps of Stooges and Guns N Roses thrown in for good measure. This is what we’ve all been waiting for and the band know it. When your guitarist screams this ain’t “no jingle jangle bullshit” and your leading lady proclaims “uh oh I got no pants on” you know you’re in for it.
