Once in a while you come across a band that gives you the culmination of all that is good in music. We introduce you to Jiva - a band whose moniker translates "the spirit within" perfectly blending Soul, Dance and Jazz to create a new sound for the masses.
Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Jiva's Fender Rhodes-driven rhythm section conjures R&B, House, Bossa Nova, and Drum & Bass beats that can move any crowd while the soulful vocal 4-piece section brings back memories of Brazil '66 and the 5th dimension. The Jazz infused horn section rounds out this trinity of sound that skillfully presents musical gems written and orchestrated by the band's leader and bassist, Khari Simmons (also a member of India.Arie's rhythm section).
Their first release on Giant Step Records, "Stars" became one of our most respectful and sought after 12" releases. Complete with remixes by Tauriva and France's Tom & Joyce, "Stars" became a favorite for the likes of Rainer Truby, Nik Weston, Frankie Valentine, and KPFK"s Kristi Lomax to name a few.
In our continuing efforts to showcase the burgeoning music scene and talent in the US, Giant Step is excited to present the long awaited follow up to "Stars." "Love Chooses Lovers" was just recently included on our compilation, Soul Sessions Volume 1. With such an original and refreshing sound, reminiscent of bossa and soul classics, "Love Chooses Lovers" quickly became a mention on everyone's lips. This 10" release of "Love Chooses Lovers" features the original version (as featured on Soul Sessions Volume 1), an acoustic version, and a remix by Tauriva (Atlanta's DJ Injex and Khari Simmons). Re-uniting again since their last remix on "Stars", Tauriva return with the 'Heart Chakra' mix - a must have for any Broken Beat / Nu Jazz DJ.
