biography

Portland, Oregon-based Soulphonic Soundsystem is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Chauncey Canfield and dj/producer DJ Santo that combines jazz breaks and broken beats with live instrumentation including horns, Rhodes and a really sick dose of latin flavor. Their debut album, "Volume One" featured guest vocals from Geri Lightwood (Supreme Beings of Leisure), Valida (past credits include work with John Beltran), and Angelique. Music from the album has been featured on HBO's Entourage and CSI:NY and tracks have been licensed for the Plush II compilation and hand-selected by Karim Rashid for inclusion his "Plaza Magazine Mix," amongst others.

DJ Santo also hosts the weekly Portland radio show Something Different (which is available on demand in the Giant Step player) and serves up two mixes a month for KEXP's Mo'Glo Program which is featured on WNYE in New York. Canfield is the producer for both programs. While the duo's radio and studio work has made live shows a rarer occurrence, a recent performance by DJ Santo at Portland's acclaimed MusicfestNW was sold out.
