Who told Joss Stone that she could get this funky? Introducing Joss Stone is a 14-track album that intersects at the crossroads of soul and pop, which is to be expected with the talented Raphael Saadiq on production. Besides the several genre element, there is a range of tempos from mellow to upbeat that allow her to showcase her dynamic voice range and multi-dimensional personality. For example the feel good, "Headturner" (which samples classic hit "Respect") has a bit of an attitude about it, nice groove cut "Girl They Won't Believe It" shows a bit of confidence, while "Baby, Baby, Baby" possesses a smooth rhythm . All three tracks allow Stone's gritty, vintage vocals to shine.

Another strong point within the album is the diverse lyrics. They are both reflective of Stone's growth and Saadiq's experience. In "Put Your Hands On Me," a much matured Stone sensually states - "Bring me your sugar/and pour it all over me," while the innocence is felt on ballad, "What Were We Thinking" - "I'ma brand myself a fool/cause I fell in love with you."

Keeping on the love theme, "Arms of My Baby" flirts with some properly timed breaks and Salsa style instrumentation that top off the album with a spicy flavor.

But perhaps the most anticipated track is her collaboration with Ms. Lauryn Hill on "Music," which by no coincidence samples "The Mask" from the Fugees. For real, I expected Hill to be belting out some notes, but instead she drops a rap verse that is sprinkled in between the infectious hip-hop chorus and chilled out beat. Stone also teams up with Common on "Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now," where they compliment each other well on the verbal tip.

There is a vibe felt throughout this album. One that you can definitely get your groove on to or throw on as background music at a barbeque or getting ready to go out for the night. Joss Stone easily established herself as a contender in the category of funky female singers of the future. Introducing Joss Stone not only sounds good - it also feels good.
