Skye steps away from fronting Morcheeba with a strong solo effort ‘Mind How You Go.’ Not that it was something she was looking initially to do, but going solo became a matter of necessity to continue to express her beautiful artistic voice. With the end of her contribution to Morcheeba came the opportunity to express herself in a more personal manner by singing her own lyrics and writing her own music. She opens herself emotionally with 11 wonderful ballads inviting the listener into spaces of her inner emotions with her tempting and tranquil sound.

“Tell Me About Your Day,” recalling her only trip to a pre-Katrina New Orleans, is like a letter home featuring a lovely melody with a personal lyric of missing home. The release takes the electronic glow of her former mates and twists in a healthy dose of chill out. The
result is pure enchantment guided by her halcyon delivery. “Stop Complaining” recalls her former days with a programmed beat but adds the airy guitars that are used throughout. The use of strings and acoustic guitars make “Powerful,” with its hook, simply that, a powerful song of independence lyrically showing she is more than ready for the pressures of a solo debut without relying on her previous successes found in the wildly popular group that she has ever so gracefully and tactfully left behind.

Enlisting producer Pat Leonard (Madonna, Elton John and countless others) together they deliver a very neatly pressed package of sophisticated, dare I say, pop. It’s a wonderful intriguing mixture that gets it there, with gorgeous soundscapes and rich textures. Let’s hope she gets the recognition she deserves.
