FIRST LISTEN: Brazilian Girls' Talk to La Bomb
Review by Kendah El-Ali, Jul 14, 02:12 PM EST
description

So the name’s a little stupid, but the rest of Brazilian Girls’ upcoming album, 'Talk to La Bomb,' is anything but. Serving up heavy doses of their signature international intrigue, fit for noir nights out dancing from Berlin to Buenos Aires, 'Talk to La Bomb' is a more refined step forward from last year’s self-titled debut on Verve Forecast. Recorded in just over a week in Jimi Hendrix’s, New York Electric Lady Studios, the quartet turned to Ric Ocasek (former frontman for The Cars) to produce their sophomore album, resulting in a classier, more robust sound – A little less grimy/sweaty nights in Nublu (the downtown NYC club where they formed), a little more mature internationally acclaimed stars if you will.

Overall, the album runs a bit like a macabre spy novel, with tracks about Germans, territories, tanks, sweatshops and nicotine set in a sexy, hazy lounge. Fabulous frontwoman Sabrina Sciubba deftly bounces between Spanish, English, French and German once again, and even manages to melt all four together in both “Jique” and “Talk to La Bomb.” And just as variegated as its tongues, the album effortlessly bounces between breezy, romantic house in “Last Call,” to tribal-infused, Dadaesque punk in “Tourist Trap,” to the drum-n-bass-kissed ballad “Sexy Asshole" - An exciting night’s globetrot.

Talk to La Bomb will be released on Verve Forecast mid-September. By then, you’ll be able to catch them live on their North American tour. Here’s the tracklist:

1. Jique
2. All About Us
3. Last Call

6. Le Territoire
7. Rules of the Game
8. Talk to la Bomb
9. Nicotine
