KRAAK & SMAAK
Kraak & Smaak (Oscar De Jong, Mark Kneppers and Wim Plug) are the future Funk Sound of the Netherlands. Their ultra cool and slightly old school production style has been winning them a diverse range of fans around the world. Fans such as Pete Tong to Andy Smith and Groove Armada to Rob Da Bank, have supported them through ‘Money in the Bag’ to ‘Keep On Searching’, to ‘Set Fire to the Disco. They leap forward once again with their new EP, ‘Say Yeah’, which has already earned them entries in the DMC Buzz Chart, the UK Cool Cuts Chart and Ministry of Sound’s Vital Vinyl Chart (at #1 no less…).

Whatever these boys do it’s got to be funky.
“Well I guess it is all about the funk for us. Everything revolves around finding a funky bass lick or an old school sample and building a track up from there says Mark - widely known in the Netherlands as DJ Knuppelhout and together with Oscar de Jong, as Noogman. Mark is also part of one of Hollands biggest pop acts – Wipneus & Pim.

DJ Wim Plug (alter ego Dr. Fröbel) is also a member of the multimedia turntable orchestra ‘Polyvinyl Big Band’, which performed at various music, film and art festivals, including the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Studio maestro Oscar studied music at the Rotterdam conservatoire and is the live instrument whizz, especially the Fender Rhodes. He is also the primary knob twiddler of Kraak en Smaak, while taking inspiration from Wim & Mark who are constantly hunting down samples and hooks.

Kraak & Smaak have recently completed remixes for Mark Rae, Fort Knox Five and Max Sedgley and their track ‘One of these Days’ is featured on the new Ursula 1000 mix cd. Their much anticipated Debut album on Jalapeno Records will be out Spring 2005.
