They were from a gig they played at The House of Blues sometime back. Some kinda way, my friend got wind of em' and let me check em' out. The recordings are sorta rough, but you can still hear the band with pretty good clarity and they were locked tight...

I hate when artists do Japan-only versions cuz they're a ***** to get ahold of up here without ordering em online or going to Japan.
Live stuff's great though - did ya hear it online or on a release?

Soulive is one of the tightest playing bands out there. I peeped them back in like 2001. I got my hands on some of their Japanese tracks & some live stuff they did @ The House of Blues...Haven't seen em' live yet, but from what I've heard, they live up to their name...

Last I heard they had actually left Blue Note and have a new album coming out September 13th on Concord Records. I totally agree with Mowgli, don't sleep on their live gigs if they're in your town. Definitely a strange mish-mash of a crowd that goes to see them, but the band's energy live is undeniable and they're tight as ****.

Soulive is definitely dope. They've collaborated in the past with artists like Black Thought (of the Roots) and Talib Kweli.
Another really dope hip hop/jazz fusion group is the NYC based Dapp Theory (well I believe when they place Jazz oriented shows they bill them as Andy Milne and Dapp Theory). Milne is a madman on the keys but they also have a ful band and an MC who blends singing, hip hop and slam poetry style lyrics over some really sick instrumentation. If you hear anything about them playing an upcoming show, don't sleep on it cuz you won't regret it.

word saw these cats in early may I think in nyc...irving plaza just down the block from me...got a ticket on impulse after hearing one of their cds from back in like 2000 or 2001 or some thang. I really dug the show and have a cd somebody gave me at that show that has more sick beats, organ, groovy isht on it...might have been one of their side projects...anyway, these cats are dope fuhreel.
