Cloe....sorry to take so long in getting back....been visiting Londres..Working week were a collective from N.London. The only female in tne band line up was Annie Whitehead on horns. There was lots of guest appearances with Working Week, on 'Stella Marina', a lady called Julie Tippets added vocal with Jalal.
Maybe it is the same band....everyone involved went on to help shape the acid jazz movement that we love today. If I was more clued up I'd be able to tell you who did what after the collective went their seperate ways....Larry Stabbins and Simon Booth headed 'Working Week' as a direct response to the jazz dance scene at Camden's electric ballroom, circa 1985.

Off the top of my head, gotta definitely go with Caron Wheeler and any of the En Vogue girls (especially Terry or Cindy), the sistas can blow. Also, gotta mention Vesta Williams, she's doing jingles and jazz, but she's an OD (Original Diva)and has a set of pipes that could blow in any venue. Oooh, I know! Alexander O'Neal, if anyone can find him!!!!

I want to see a resurrection of Chaka Khan and A Tribe Called Quest.
Updates:
Natalie Cole released a new album recently I think- Tell Me All About It was brilliant and got sampled on some cool dance remixes from MAW i think...
SANDISTONE: Carleen Anderson performed at Jazz Britannia @the Barbican under Gilles Peterson and she's at the Jazz Cafe, London in the upcoming months too... www.jazzcafe.co.uk
FUMIO: Mica Paris is @the Jazz Cafe in Camden, North London... soon but i don't know about new music
STEVOLUTION: The Pharcyde were at the Jazz Cafe too although I didn't catch that gig...
and BUDDAH05.... Omar is the man! He's @the Jazz Cafe on March 26th&27th. Come on the 26th when I'll be there, (I might even be wearing my snoopy spex)- its going to be amazing- and he's got a new CD out which you can hear on www.omarmusic.net He's been playing around a lot lately- university gigs mostly.
I love Omar- so under-rated!

dlove: hola en espana- yo visto 'working week' la semana pasada en The Barbican en Londres. I don't know if they're the same group, but the singer is a beautiful big black lady with short hair and there were about 3/4 white guys on instruments. Sound familiar or is this just a group that's stolen the name?!
Mark Morrison is making a come back (unfortunately for the UK) he was in prison for a few years for holding up a supermarket in Notting Hill. I'm sorry I even know that.

oooh, how exiting if Working Week got together again!!! Jalal on vocals.......would be amazing to see the IDJ Troupe{I Dance Jazz} The horn riffs alone sound so fresh today, not to mention the wild style funk rhythms! Brazillian percussion abounds...these guys from Camden mixed it all up with Afro-Cuban sounds way back in'85 with the odyssey of a song that gets me..'Stella Marina'.
