I saw her for the second time last weekend in London- she blew it up. She has sooo much soul and passion and beauty- and she totally moved the crowd- everyone was singing back to her, and she did two encores because we loved her so much.

No-one wanted to leave and when we all finally got dragged out- everyone was smiling and humming- the buzz was wild. So amazing.

I got a whole new light on Rasool too, which was my least favourite track before the concert. I really appreciate her as an artist. Much respect due.

The album is dope to me; I had went to see her perform @ SOB's this past July and her performance was awesome!
When I listened to this album it takes me back to that performance. I'm not surprised that a lot of peeps feel that it didn't exceed the expectations that occurred with "Who Is Jill Scott" but I see her as a an artist growing and changing- just simply being herself. Right now, I'm checking "I Keep"-that was the joint she killed at the show (sista had everybody singing the chorus)!

i tink it's a decent album. Her vocals aren't as say, silky (which isn't bad) and her lyrics are still on top (tho some of her verses are a little contrived) but she is still a wonderfull wonderfull musician/artist/human being. she is being who she is, and i respect that. always have, always will. i miss every show she plays (last one at SOB's was sold out, whatta shocker)... it's still growing.

I like the album I dont love it yet. I really think I miss the Touch of Jazz production. It gave her album real personality and flow like a film.

Once you've heard her perform live you can only be disappointed. Saw her in Paris in 1999 or 2000 (anyway just after the first album came out) and it was just enchanting (and i mean it)

Hmm...Everyone has interesting and valid points. I'm actually content with the new record. I think that's because I came to the table with no expectations. I've learned to listen to first listen to new records as a fan and then a second time as an objective listener. And that's really hard when you're dealing with an artist who's previous works and successes mount pretty high. Even though she hadn't sold 5 million copies, Jill came into the game with much gusto and garnered buku accolades and critical acclaim. Thus people were looking for her second effort to be leaps and bounds above what she'd already done. I still think her most adventurous track was the 4 Hero cut "Gotta Get Up". But ultimately, 'Beautifully Human' is a solid album. Nothing to rave about, but a collection of descent songs with some gems thrown in the mix. It's definitely a step above its predecessor. Hybrid joints like "Talk To Me", the warm fuzzy analog vibes of "My Petition" (reminicent of "AD 2000" on Erykah's 'Mama's Gun') and the breezy string-laden "Spring Summer Feeling" (gives me Minnie Riperton vibes)all rank on my list of faves here. And maybe the "Nothing" interlude could have been about 2 minutes longer? We all know that the wound in the creative sector of the music industry is festering with carbon copy artists and stale, rent-a-beat production behind acts that exemplify the phrase "style over substance". More times than not, it is someone else's style over substance with little talent to back it up. It seems this practice has grown exponentially in the past 5 years. With that said, we tend to have larger than life expectations and put copious amounts of pressure on our "true" artists to "come through" with mind bending material. Believe me, I know. I was, and from time to time can still be, one of them. How many of us can remember how we felt after listening to 'World Wide Underground' for the first time? But we have to remember that they, too, are trying to wade through this trying period in music history. Trying different strategies, producers, styles, ideas. And in the process, succeeding or failing. Listening to the advice of various production companies, A&R's, label heads, producers and songwriters can leave an artist's head spinning. The racks at your local record store hold endless of examples of this. But they, too, are only human. We have to trust that they will find their way eventually. Even music's most royal figures have made strings of bad records. We have to forgive them. They sometimes loose their way too. And though everyone's opinions are great, sales are the most dominant system of measurement. If she does great the first week, she'll get a big push and everyone will keep buzzing. Especially if it's better than her first record did.If not, the push will go to someone else and the buzz will die down. Cut and dry. And that's my two cents...

You know what buddah - the missing element is that Touch of Jazz flavor. I think you are on to something there.
