From a man who has gleaned immeasurably from the energies that thrive in the music of Maxwell and his artistic kin, I'd like to say thank you to the folks who started this thread. At the very least, conversation like this is critical to our progress - vital in a process that, I trust, will eventually eliminate the need to discriminate against love, of all varieties, colors, and textures ...

Oneluv, I'm with you...I don't want to even THINK that Maxwell is singing to a man while I'm bangin' out my girl. GROSSSSSSS!
Maxwell has always been a mystery to me. While I love his music, he has always been a little weird during interviews, even on-stage presence is questionnable.

Hey Kamana, I agree with you on Maxwell making that move. As far as the g-word with his music. I still would like his craft but personally I don't want to hear a man singing any love lyrics to another man when I am with my lady. So it may not fit the ears for the situation. That is just the reality. Although he more than likely is *** since he went to Howard U in the early 90's and hung around a lot of others that have since come out. But I really don't give a ****. I love the dudes music and am waiting on some new sh**
PS. Kamana you sound made kool, if you every in DC hit me up to hang out(703-861-0363) or come to Bar Nun on a Monday nite

Luther keeps his private life seperate only because if he didn't his career would be over. People have to get over the *** thing-people are people. I don't care about someone's sexuality as long as the music is tight.

i really dig luther vandross. i recently read his autobiography. he insists in keeping his public life and private life seperate.
if maxwell did the androgynous thing with his lyrics (like r.e.m. or early pet shop boys) that would be one thing.
but an overtly homoerotic album, that may be a bit much for such a fickle american music audience. it may be different in europe.
let me pose this question, would you support an artist you liked if he/she came out? what do y'all think?

I heard the same thing that the cd had been shelved because it is too homo erotic. There are plenty of *** mainstream urban artists that make a good living crooning successfully to female fans Luther Vandross is one. There are plenty of others who are not out of the closet. Over the last few years I have heard some pretty strong rumours about some well known rap artists and producers (some would really shock the industry)-would this mean that their projects would be shelved?
I think these hypocrits need to get REAL and let an artist express themselves. Who cares if Maxwell is singing to a guy or girl he still sounds great.
