I belong to a beautiful church in a small town in California. We have a divine choir and our congregation enjoys their music tremendously. The origin of gospel music has primarily been African American. In the 1950’s, this kind of music became very popular with influences of jazz, hip-hop, and rhythm and blues. With the main aim of worship, spiritual music has been around for centuries and growing in pockets. What differentiates it from pure hymns is its spontaneity where worship from the heart is the main intent. Our choir uses a variety of instruments like drums, electric and bass guitars and keyboards along with flute and cymbals. Now you’d wonder what 101d.com is and how it’s related to gospel music.

Well, Sunday after Sunday, I had been enjoying this music and bringing along my friends from different parts of the world. I thought I was doing my bit to promote my church and appreciate its talent. One day while surfing the internet, I came across www.101d.com and my narrow view changed in minutes. Set up by someone I would call a visionary - Damon Evans, 101d.com believes in giving a global platform to all kinds of music. Mainstream artistes are featured along side local talent and musicians from all genres of music are actively encouraged. I found this to be such a God sent opportunity, especially as none of us in the church either knew much about the world of music or were actively approaching record labels to spread our gospel music.

The information at 101 Distribution's website was truly useful. I shared it with my church band members and they were all very excited at the prospect of registering with them. We do not know much about the ‘business’ of music. We believe in singing from our heart and glorifying God Almighty. 101d is exactly the kind of avenue we needed to make our music touch even more hearts. Also, we feel that a trustworthy company like 101 Distribution will find real value in what we do and not be interested in political agenda behind music.

And yes, did you think were African American? Hold your breath! We are actually a group of South East Asians, Malaysians and Koreans. Most of us are professionals and have come to America at various points in time. Our music therefore reflects our cultural influences as well. We’re all very excited about prospects with 101d. We are an open church and invite everyone to join in. If you have musical talent, that’s even better. Before Easter and Christmas, we organize special music programs. We have found children and youth to be particularly interested and joining in. Some of our favorite choirs and artistes are the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Fred Hammond and Out of Eden. One day I hope our gospel music will also be famous like theirs. Who knows, with 101d, I think success is just round the corner.
