I think Lizz Fields definitely has the same "Philly" vibe that has made Jill Scott as hot as she is right now, but I think it'll be a good while before we can really compare the two side by side (if ever). Long story short, Lizz has a "long walk" before she's as "golden" as Jill...

Jill's debut blew my mind, while this current release is just average. I had the same reaction as the thread originator, the CD let me wanting more. A lot more. When I was finished skipping through the CD, I took my headphones off and actually shrugged my shoulders.
I need to get familiar with Lizz.

The Lizz CD is really wonderful, my only gripe is that it's too short. Lovely voice, nice music and she'll have a great career. But Jill is years ahead of her.
just my opinion, peace

Jill Scott's pretty amazing in my opinion- I saw her at the Brixton Academy in London last week and she blew the roof off! So much passion and she knows how to touch an audience. The buzz after the concert was so cool- everyone was smiling and humming. Was awesome.
I think I might check out this Lizz lady, she's not big over here in the UK just yet.

If you ever get to see Lizz live you'll appreciate her on a whole other level. While I love the record, it doesn't even hint at what she's capable of. Her band is on some seriously, fierce soul-jazz flavour, with heavy Rhodes and colossal drums worthy of Doug Carn. Also, Lizz's voice comes across as much more potent and lovely live. I was lucky enough to see Lizz with Jody Watley and Julie Dexter, as potentially the most brilliant Mother's Day bill in history, at L.A.'s shrine for world jazz jive, Temple Bar. But under any circumstances, CHECK LIZZ LIVE IF YOU CAN!!
As for Jill, she is by now on a whole other level, and people will speak about her in 20 years the way they speak of Minnie, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Jean Carn now.
Just my 2¢.

I purchase Lizz Fields CD from a website called Dusty Groove America. I liked it instantly and it put me in the mind of Jill Scott. While I think they have similar styles, they are 2 completely differenct voices. I'm glad to see more talent emerge from Philly which I believe has experienced a resurgence of talent. Lizz has a great voice and I'll probably cop the CD a second time since new tracks and remixes are on that release.

I think it's almost an unfair comparison. Both Jill and Lizz have had tons of buzz coming out with their first project, but Jill is in a whole other arena now. Not only was her first good musically and lyrically but really she was the only one putting out grown folks music for young people that everybody could relate to. Now her second cd is thought provoking, musical and lyrically sound (I mean Minnie is all up on that joint). Once again anybody can listen to this cd and relate and many levels.
Liz is growing and my hats off to anyone putting their all in this music thing...but Jill is way down the road on this musical journey.

Lizz Fields is one of the most talented singers out there right now. She is gorgeous, her voice is soothing and lyrics, real....from the heart raw. She just did a new track with King Britt called Our Time, simply amazing. Dont know when its coming but !.....whew .....

I haven't heard anything from Lizz, but the clips here on the site. Sounds to me like Lizz's stuff is musically alot less complex than Jill's. Lyrically I liked it, but musically? eh.
Just my observation.

I'm digging Lizz Field's stuff and I also dig Jill Scott, although I haven't heard all of Jill's new album. Although I have heard the comparison of Lizz to Jill, we still have to keep in mind that it's all been done before. Take a listen to Adriana Evans first album that came out years before Jill Scott. But all in all, everyone is influenced in some way by previous music. If it's good I'll give it a try.
