Thanx for following up for me, Funk-e. Good to know someone else knows the DC scene just as well.

For lounge type sounds, you should check the Theivery Corporation spot called Eighteenth Street Lounge in Dupont Circle. For anything undeground hip-hop related, stay close to the Howard University area. Kaffa House in the U Street corridor is a haven for backpackers and bohos. I would tell u to check State Of The Union but, sadly, it has closed it's doors. Also, check Toni Blackmon's Freestyle Union. Their events move from spot to spot, so you'll have to google them or ask around for a list of upcoming events. Also, check Groove Gumbo's website (groovegumbo.com) for any upcoming soulful events. Hope this helps.

peace chico --
i lean towards lounge music of all types. hip-hop of course nothing too crunk tho. breakbeat, acid jazz, afrobeat, soul.... etc.
something appropriately blasted amidst dim lighting and comfy couches.

Hey, Ginger. I'm originally from DC. DC doesn't have a very big hipster scene compared to NYC. But there are a few enclaves that you may find enticing depending on your tastes. What are you into? Punk, underground hip-hop, house?

in a rash decision i abandoned my life in the trenches of fashion pr to finish up grad school in DC. Now I'm here and w/out a proper crew --I'm sick of squatting in nyc & iladelph every wkend because i'm clueless about the district.
are they're any kind-hearted b-boys/girls willing to adopt me? the people i've met so far have been too popped collar/stand and drink/top 40... for my hipster tastes. i know there's more than dupont!
holla atcha grrl
one.
