kevstarr, I was at that Artscape gig last weekend and I agree. The stage location and sound wasn't really all that good. My man Chris Brooks did a great job of promoting the event as a whole, but it didn't seem like the heads came out in full force for them at all. The blistering heat certainly didn't make it as dope of an experience as it could have been. PPP gave their all though and I know I had a great time peeping them sandwiched in between Esthero and the debut of Nickodemus' live project. Waajeed and Saadiq seemed happy after the gig...so I'm assuming they'll be back...at least I hope so.

We're not cool enough to have them live up here in Ottawa Canada, but I've definitely been diggin' their tunes since they hit. Hopefully the people up here will get hip to their stuff soon so we can have em play our lovely city.

I caught PPP in Baltimore at Artscape last weekend and was glad I did. I've kept their album on heavy rotation since it was released. I was disappointed that my city did not represent properly, but PPP did receive a bad time slot and location and no promotion from the radio jocks (as expected). I hope the crew didn't get a bad impression of charm (harm) city and will return to perform.

i think b must have bumped his **** head. i went to school in rhode island and can attest to the lack of sharp tools in that shed.

I don't know how this dude B from Rhode Island can rip the Piper's debut disc on Amazon like this?!?! www.amazon.com
I've yet to see Waajeed and Saadiq live (my turn is coming at Artscape on July 23rd), but this album is one of the most refreshing things to come from the underground in a **** of a long time. Future-soul, quasi hip-hop, whatever you call it, PPP are no joke! Oh yeah, the vocalist on "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" is Rojier.

PPP did their thing in NY! SoulFire I hate to disappoint you, but they (along with the singer - whose name escapes me @ the moment) did "50 Ways..." and killed it.

I agree. I caught one of their first shows, if not the first show they ever did here in San Francisco. They need to do "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" live... but they'd have to bring the singer for that too. I can't make the next one on june 2nd here in Frisco because I'm watching Dwele and his 7-piece live band.

Why was this Platinum Pied Pipers show so live last night?? Was it the beautifully clever lyricist MC Invincible who (spittin flows through bronchitis) was as solid getting the crowd hyped as she was freestylin over topics like the prison system & respect?? Was it Atlanta's own Tiombe Lockhart, decked out like Deborah Harry's cute ebony protege and singing soul without the neosoul pretense?? Perhaps was it the improptu (read: keepn it real) freestyle cypher with local emcee Rubix spittin hard while Ms. Stacey Epps dropped chants and sweet vocals over choppy MPC riddims?? Or was it Saadiq gettin down with the contortionist dance skillz and strummin funkyass Sly & Family Stone-esqe licks on the guitar like it was his 3rd arm??

Well, more than likely, it was how Wajeed & crew came so amped and stirred up the crowd, without unnecessary fakeness. Mind you they DROVE (read: no Amtrack; no AirTran) the 13 hrs from NY straight to Atlanta. No limousines. No private jets. JUST HEART. That was the show...just people who had the heart to keep the party hot.

If you get the chance to check out their show, do not hesitate .... I'm telling you >> PPP gets OFF.
