Donny Hathaway is arguably one of the most underrated artists out there. truly a LEGEND in my book...he's up there with Stevie Wonder as my all-time favorite soul artists. we need to do the man justice...

My man Mellow...I've experienced the server issue too and have addressed it with GS, but dawg, you hit it right on the button!!! Funny, I never thought about Larenz Tate, but he'd probably rock the part (of course he'd have to have Donny's trademark sideburns...) and I guess they could use either Donnie or Frank McComb for the overdubs. Great minds really do think alike, huh?!?!? Stay Up Doc

kaedeepee,
I must say I've waited a week to get my account (something about the server having some issues) just so I could say EXACTLY what you've put down.
Frank McComb's voice is so reminiscent of Donny Hathaway that it's scary. Buckshot Lefonque (Funky Branford Marsalis) really put McComb out there and I've been hooked ever since.
As for who should play Mr. Hathaway, I would caution simply having someone who sounds like him to take on a theatrical role.
I would say blow the dust off of Larenz Tate,(Love Jones/A Blues for Nina) grow some sideburns and fro and we're getting close.
IMHO
peace
Mellow...

I agree. Donnie is like listening to Donnie Hathaway all over again. But, I also hear Donny Hathaway's voice everytime I listen to Frank McComb. As for a movie bout' Donny Hathaway, Donnie would probably be THE best person to portray him, at least vocally...

to find out more on his work, why not check his daughter lalah hathaway's website: lalahhathaway.com
lots of dedicated donny fans and lalah frequents the boards everyday, several times a day (no lie, she really hangs out with her fans like that) and so does donny's wife euelah hathaway who i'm sure will answer any questions you may have.

Everything Is Everything!
I reckon Mos Def would be a good choice to play him but Donnie would be the best person to recreate Donny Hathaway's vocals

how about don cheadle?
and i'm a suckah for those type of films (like 'ray' and that vh1 movie about the temptations or whatever...) but a documentary would be very interesting also... i think i enjoy the drama a bit more sometimes...
