We've had a few songs from Heather Headley's forthcoming 'In My Mind' album up in our Jukebox for a minute, but we just got our paws on exclusive remixes of the title track from Freemasons and our good friend Dave Hernandez. You may remember Dave's stellar re-work of RSL's "The Mast" that we released on a limited Giant Step Records 12". You can preview both remixes here:

In the most southern part of Sweden you'll find a collective of musicians and music connoisseurs that love all aspects of the Brazilian music heritage. Together they call themselves A Bossa Eletrica and are one of Sweden's most hardworking (and best) live outfits. Together with superb lead vocalist Miriam Aida, this 6-piece band is not your average dodgy bossa nova act. Top-notch musicians and arrangers, they record 100% live and with a deep respect for the classic sounds that were hailing from Rio, Sao Paulo and Salvador in the 60’s and 70’s. They could be described as the missing link between current acts like Da Lata and classic artists like Djavan, Joyce, Marcos Valle or Jorge Ben. On their debut album 'Electrificacao' you’ll find instant-classic original compositions and a couple choice covers. The album moves effortlessly between up-tempo samba heat, melodic Afro-Brazilian songs, orchestral bossa novas, as well as some funkier explorations. Get a sample from the album for yourself here:

Up Hygh sound more Detroit than Stockholm, but don't let the point of origin fool you. This duo of 20 year olds (Pure-P and Rick Skizzo) are dropping their Raw Fusion debut 'Venus' on March 14th in the US and are poised to reinvent the "Swedish sound." Complete with guests such as Planet Asia, Eska, Melo, Linn and others these hip hop soul lovers are churning up the hot tunes. You can check out a few cuts from the album here including "Keep On" feat. Little Brother and "The Gift" feat. Melo:

Made up of eleven hungry MCs (Vordul Mega, Akir, Hasan Salaam, Dom Pachino, Billy Woods, Keith Masters, Karniege, Kong, Spiga, Priviledge, & Goldenchild), The Reavers blasted onto the scene late last November with 'Terra Firma.' Basically bum-rushing the industry a la' Wu-Tang Clan crew-style this collective is pulling no shorts and taking no prisoners. We've got three songs up in the Jukebox now for you to check out here:

Happy New Year y'all! We've been busy getting ready for the launch of our newly redesigned home page (look for that in the next couple of weeks), but in the meanwhile we couldn't stop putting up hot new tracks into the Jukebox for you to eat up. You all may remember a little tune called "Dream" by Alice Smith making some noise in the Jukebox. "Dream" wound up being the #1 most listened to song in our entire Jukebox for 2005, but don't take my word for it. The Best of 2005 Playlist is up and running now. With her debut album 'For Lovers, Dreamers & Me' slated for release on May 16th on BBE Records we've been lucky enough to get our hands on two more exclusive songs from the album, "Woodstock" and "Love Endeavor." Alice embodies everything that comes to mind when you mix Rock and Pop with a dash of Soul and her debut is one to watch for. You can find out more about her upcoming album and listen to all three tracks from her album here:

Incognito are back with a brand new studio record entitled ‘Eleven,’ dropping on January 24th. Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick was so impressed with the band’s live shows over the course of 2005 that he did something he’s never done before, he recorded an album WITH the touring band. Those fortunate enough to catch Incognito live this year have an inkling of what’s in store with this new album. With vocals from Maysa Leak and Imaani and the standard deep soul grooves, ‘Eleven’ is sure to be a must-have for fans of real soul jazz. You can hear three exclusive tracks from the album in our Jukebox now. Click here for more info and soundclips from Incognito's new album:

Say Sly And The Family Stone to any true music fan and a smile from ear to ear should quickly emerge. The interracial, mixed gender group literally burst onto the music scene back in 1967 with a magical blend of rock, soul, pop, jazz and the early roots of what would come to be termed funk. Uplifting, soulful and thrilling, the band’s music transcends the time period in which it was recorded and has continued to live on via samples by everyone from Janet Jackson, Beastie Boys, Kid Rock, Fatboy Slim, Ice Cube and Public Enemy. ‘Different Strokes By Different Strokes’ is essentially the best kind of tribute one could imagine for such an influential group. Current chart-toppers and, more importantly, fans of the group were asked to re-imagine the timeless hits of the group and the album features, will.i.am, Maroon 5, The Roots, Big Boi (of OutKast), Moby, Buddy Guy, Chuck D, John Legend, Joss Stone, Nappy Roots and others. The album officially hits shelves on January 31st, but you can sample three tracks from the album now in our Jukebox. Click here for more info and soundclips from 'Different Strokes By Different Folks':

Goapele’s long-awaited and HIGHLY anticipated sophomore full-length ‘Change It All’ comes out on December 27th and we’ve just added three tracks from the album in our Jukebox for you all to preview. “Love Me Right," “First Love” and “If We Knew” are all up in our Jukebox here: www.giantstep.net or you can go directly to the ‘Change It All’ Release Page to peep the tracks here: www.giantstep.net Look for these tunes to be making the rounds in the official Giant Step Playlist, updated weekly.
We’ve also put up the underground anthem “Go! Find A Way” (with Common) for all of you to check out. Originally found on DJ Eleven’s ‘Big Things Start Small Volume 1’ Mixtape and later on bootleg 12”, that tune was definitely one of the scorchers of this fall combining Common's classic "Go!" instrumental with Goapele's "Find A Way" accapella.
