SunTzu Sound ep01 features production & vocals from Capital A
Seattle's critically acclaimed DJ crew takes the next step in the rise of stateside
broken beat production with the creation of their SunTzu Sound label. This first
release is a split 12" featuring original tunes from SunTzu Sound members Dr J
and AC Lewis.
Dr J's 1LUV project offers up a true future soul anthem for fans of 4Hero, Agent K
and Jazzanova. 'Black Daylight' features production and backing vocals from
globetrotting MC Capitol A. Vancouver's Jzabel sings over a chunky, broken rhythm
and soulful keys while leading us through the song's uplifting second half. 1LUV's debut
album will be released next spring on Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv label.
Founding member of SunTzu Sound, AC Lewis, aims straight for the dancefloor and
drops 'Tickles', a broken beat-dancehall-pop bombshell featuring Vancouver based MC
Ndidi Cascade. Fans of Seiji, Switch, and Scruff will be feeling the neck-snapping beat
and rude bassline, while Ndidi Cascade's Missy-inspired flow guarantees crossover
success. An instrumental version is included for the more creative DJ.
FEEDBACK:
"Hot stuff! Solid" - Karl Injex (Rude Movements, NYC)
Black Daylight "is strongly reminiscent of some of Roy Ayers' tracks." - Brian Jackson
(Band leader and keyboardist for Gil Scott Heron)
"Tickles is a banger for sure!" - DJ Santo (Transistor Lounge)
The EP has been getting spins from DJs Phil Asher, Benji B (BBC 1xtra), Andrew
Jervis (Ubiquity), Rainer Trüby, Bugz in the Attic, Mr. Scruff and John Beltran
