I have to say that I am in love with Nik Bartsch's Ronin CD. It brings to mind John Cage and Philip Glass' work, but also reminds me of the heavy grooves of Medeski Martin & Wood. It is refreshing when an artist crosses boundaries with an open mind such that of Bartsch - no wonder Gilles Peterson played one of this tracks on his eclectic Worldwide show. Check out the track "Module 36" which starts off quietly and builds up into an upbeat funky tune.
Plus it's on ECM, which is an awesome label based out in Germany with a long history of putting out other-wordly good jazz records, check their site www.ecmrecords.com
