from what i heard the crowd was wack.. i was there but was a little drunk so i had a hard time making out who had on the latest prada or gucci fall outfits so nobody seemed too wack..but it's hard for me to complain about any broken beat event because there are so few broken beat events in nyc.. and everytime there's an event im just glad to be able to check heads out... whats funny to me is that broke-beat or whatever you wanna call it has been going on for at least almost 5 years if not longer and most of new york has not even heard of the genre.. too busy listening to commercial crap and watching MuckTV all
day to get your new music information..wake the **** up and support

I can agree that the crowd was kinda wack. It was like everyone was allergic to the dancefloor. But cielo is ok as far as a space.
When Louie Vega does his Roots party on Wed., I have a great time. Also the Giles Peterson party there was wicked. Last night was just one of those night when everything didn't really click.
But I one thing I do feel is that every club in Manhattan other than Shelter and a couple of other spots have turned extremely yuppie.
Where have all the cool spots with the underground feel gone?

Yeah, i hear you on the crowd at Cielo being a bit wack, but I have to say that the venue itself is AMAZING! Not only is it beautiful and have such a warm feeling to it, but the sound, oh wow, the sound. It's pristine and perfect.

i had a decent time. it was good meeting lindsey and rico of giant step. they were cool peeps.
the downer was the venue itself. that place is wack. never been there before, and never will return. i hate that yuppie bullshit crowd that's there just because the club is "hot." how many people you think were there to listen to bugz? seriously. the sound there was nice, but in order to get down you had to be the dancefloor that was the size of a picnic planket. come on?! i guess it is appropriate for a bunch of skinny people who have no danceskills aside running their fingers through their hair and raising their arms with a little shimmy. i got my foot stompedon a few times by stupid botches trying to dance in their high heels. fack that shat, forreal! but i digress. i was told that was the venue the DJs wanted to rock.
i don't mind the rewinds, letting the songs run out, MCing, whatever. selection was cool and they were having a good time with it.
and i agree, that new omar track that they dropped was so ILL! as was the last joint they played. NUTSO!
who were you guys? i was the dude with the gray hat, purple t-shirt with longsleeve under, and reebok pump fury's glowing in the blacklight. wow, i sound like a stupid raver.

First of all, i forgot how fantastic the sound is at Cielo. My god!
Secondly, I agree that Daz and Orin spoke a bit too much, and the energy wasn't really all that intense on the dance floor. It seems 'rewinds' don't excite the crowds in NYC the way it does the folks in England.
Thirdly, the set was bangin'!...they played the hot new joints (Omar, Mark de Clive Lowe) and the older Bugz classics (Dreams Afronaught mix, Vikter Duplaix bugz mix, etc). Hearing those tunes on Cielo's system is a treat, regardless of how many people are dancing.

i agree. the tracks were great especially the new 'booty lala' track but what killed me having the MC interject almost every song.
I have to say last night was a difficult tossup betweeen bugz in the attic and high contrast. why is it when it rains it pours?

I went to the Bugz joint last night really excited about them spinning. To my surprise though, I was just an average set. I was kinda disapointed. He did play some really hot tracks (especially some of that sort of latin broken beat) but things never got crazy like they do for a normal bugz event. The main problem was that they kept on stopping the music and talking which just kills the energy if you do it too much. There were times I felt like almost telling them to shut up and just play the music. I guess it's one of those things some nights.

who's coming out tonight?
i'll be the one with the rainbow afro wig, zebra-print chaps and ostrich-skin rollerskate boots, with an extra medium shirt that says "spoiled" on it. i'll be dancing like a pony. come hollard at your greens.

Man, I'm definitely going to be up in there! I love the Bugz crew! I was there last year when the Steppers had them at Mission on Bowery. It was so packed, even the walls were sweating! Those lads are beat architects in every sense of the word! Don't sleep...
