I love Horace Silver's "I had a little talk" too! and your review.

Yo Tom, excellent review my man!
... and the reviews keep coming from the Giant Step contributors. Here is futureoul's recent favorite - the Jazzanova compiled 'Blue Note Trip.' These guys just can't go wrong! __________________________________________________________________ Jazzanova – ‘Blue Note Trip: Lookin' Back & Movin' On’ (Blue Note Records) The producer/remix collective Jazzanova always make for an interesting listen. Their latest endeavor 'Blue Note Trip: Lookin' Back & Movin' On' is no exception. Jazzanova was asked by the legendary Blue Note Jazz label to compile an album from Blue Note’s catalog. Comprised of vintage tracks, you can actually hear the dust and scratch at the beginning and end of each disc. The idea was to create a flow that showcased Blue Note's different styles of jazz. The result is a listening experience for both jazz purists and novices alike. 'Lookin' Back' is a head nodding, toe tapping trip, blending Latin percussion, 50s bop and 70s soul jazz together. Nearly all instrumental, there are several standout vocal tracks. “I've Had A Little Talk” is a gem from Horace Silver's early 70s cosmic jazz releases. The Water's song “Sittin' Here All Alone” is reminiscent of the lush vocal soul of The Rotary Connection. And the minimal 'Baltimore Oriole' features the honey drenched vocals of Sheila Jordan. Listening to 'The Blue Note Trip,' its easy to see where the influences for some of today’s top jazz, soul and urban artists come from. With such an ambitious project we see why Blue Note remains the most influential of jazz labels. Reviewed by Giant Step contributor Thomas J.
