hey good people -
i can't believe there's no buzz or talk about the new Amigos album, which graced my itunes last week and really hasn't left the rotation since. it's called 'superpop venezuela' and it's really dope. oddly enough, my favorite cuts are the shorter ones like 'dun dun' (addictive beat and horns accentuate the song a bit), 'miss venezuela', 'all day today' (nice african influence heard in there), no es facil amir (the vocals hit very beautiful around the 1:14 mark) and 'yo ne si'.
such a lounge groove album, with a bit of humor, a lot of sensuality and just flat out funk, venezualan influenced jazz. i think the vocals are dope, but to me, it's the instrumentation that make this album stand out, plus the dope artwork on the cover..which by now is an Amigos trademark - their covers are always artistic and have an element of sexiness to them (well, the last 2 at least). i just became an amigos fan earlier this year, so maybe your ears will hear something else, but at least try!
anyway, i hope you are checking for the album and those in new york, please support them by coming to the show at irving plaza on october 7, 2006.
