Look, I don't know what type of music ya'll into to , but Mos Def is the . This beautiful man makes life when he makes music, I say that because when I come across music that I feel I could no longer thrive without hearing, I call it life. Mos Def and others have achieved this. Mos achieved it on Universal Magnetic, Black Star, Black On Both Sides, AND New Danger. And I don't what some of you being trippin' on but in concert, Mos Def is badass, so is Minnesota and Anwar. Not only that, but they are some of the nicest people. At the concert in Columbus at Newport Music Hall, they let my cousin and I go back stage and get autographs. It was great.
Look, I ain't tryin' to be hypocritical or anything, because I know that I have had criticism on different music, like Usher's present album, but Mos Def is the truth, can't no one touch Mos. God bless him and his crew and family.

*And for the ignorant statement about Mos Def using Black Jack Johnson too much, well, that is his band, that he put together, why wouldn't he be doing music with the band? Peace,
LL

Don't mean to chime in with the "what the ... was that album about", but what the...
I saw Mos perform about 4 years ago in Atlanta and was taken aback by the whole rock fusion but still thought it was a good show. Over the years I've listened to more of Mos' new direction and grown to appreciate it for what it is. But I do think that none of that came through in the album. Unfortunately The New Danger seemed rushed and the sequencing was pretty confusing. I'm behind Mos and his new direction but I think he's most succesful when his rock has a bit more soul to it.

I know I posted about two months ago that 'The New Danger' is a great album. However after listening to it for only two months I have kinda gotten tired of it. You don't get tired of great albums after two months. When I listen to 'Illmatic' or Black Moon's' 'Enter the Stage' or Mos def's own 'Black on both sides' I know I am listening to something great. I just think that he had so many things he wanted to put out that instead of just putting out a Mos Def album and a Black Jack Johnson album seperately he tried to do everything at once. It's a ok/good CD but not great.

The bottome line about "The New Danger" ........it's a Black Jack Johnson album. He should have billed it that way and alot of people could have saved their money!

Mos, go back to the drawing board and try again or stick to acting. Please

"the new danger" is Mos putting out another album.

yo this "if you listen to it with an open mind" nonsense needs to end. mos dropped a wack album. end of story. we don't have to bend our perceptions of what is good music to fit an album. rap-rock is a dangerous venture; mos got burned. much love for the effort, but the product turned out sour.

the new danger is amazing.. if you've got an open mind. though definitely, if you're expecting a continuation of black on both sides, you're going to get quite confused. even then if you give it chance, listen to it a few times, you'll start to open up to it and appreciate the artistic directions or misdirections he's taken. personally, i love the record. there are a few misses here and there, but overall, it's a champ. right now i can't get over the boogie man song.

Experimenting and growing is one thing. But leaving the market for 5 straight years and then coming back on a totally new trip and expecting your fans to accept it is another. We all know that in hip hop, 5 years is a lifetime. I've listened to the album twice from beginning to end and it seems like he tried to do too much. First of all, it's 18 tracks for God's sake. Also. There was very little balance. He didn't give his core fanbase much of anything that resembled the Mos Def that we've come to love. ****, I remember Mos from when he was signed to Payday/ FFRR as part of a group called UTD. Still got the promo vinyl! And who can forget that underground gem "Universal Magnetic"? My favorite Shawn J. Period track! Yes, Mos has come a long way from then. And you should expect an artist to grow over such a period of time. But I think he just got carried away with these new undeveloped concepts that he's developed over the past couple of years. Black Jack Johnson was a good concept, but it wasn't fleshed out enough to introduce to the mass public. Same thing goes for his Big Band concept. But to tell you the truth, 'The New Danger' was to be expected. All of our coveted more organic artists "go there". How many people can remember how we felt when we listened to Common's 'Electric Circus'? The New Danger is not a horrible album. Scattered and schizo, yes.

I happen to disagree that Mos Def album was horrible. I thought it was quite good if you listen to it with an open mind. Anybody who expected Black on Both Sides 2 will be dissapointed. But if you want to hear a really good journey through rock, blues and soul via hip hop then THE NEW DANGER is a great CD. I feel like people are doing the same thing to Mos that people did to Nas after Illmatic in that people love the first album so much they don't want the artist to experiment and grow on anything after.

I am a die hard MOS DEF fan but I thought this album was HORRIBLE! Was this an underhanded scheme to release a Black Jack Johnson album? Mos is too good of an Emcee to put out this record. This is just as bad as Lauren Hill not rhyming anymore. I love good rock music also but I need to here Mos Def spit like the emcee he is. Leave the rock to N.E.R.D....

yeah, I just watched the show... I agree that it seemed he was uncomfortable. I could tell.
I've got the album today, and it is amazing. you won't be dissappointed. I actually listened to Ghetto Rock and Sex,Love... which are not quite my favorite and didn't really have high expectation on the album, but that was wrong. he did it again!
