Mavis is a collaboration between Ashley Beedle & Darren Morris, a concept born from their mutual love and respect for Mavis Staples, the Staples Singers, and 70’s era Stax records. The tracks are strung together by the airy downtempo production, with various vocalists like Kurt Wagner, Candi Staton, Ed Harcourt, Edwyn Collins, Cerys Matthews and Saint Etienne’s Sarah Cracknell. Four Tet – There Is Love In You by DominoRecordCo
There Is Love In You is Four Tet’s first full-length in over four years, and his fifth LP to date.
Four years and four million album sales after her self-titled debut album comes Corinne Bailey Rae’s long-awaited second album, The Sea. For the 30 year-old singer and songwriter from Leeds, this meant politely declining the suggestions that she work with this or that big-league producer in this or that big-money studio. The first single “I’d Do It All Again,” one of many highlights on album, is a sweeping, defiant declaration of love and faith. The Sea will undoubtedly elevate Bailey Rae beyond her already-considerable achievements and put her up there with the all-time greats.
For one night only, sultry pop-soul newcomers Nikki & Rich perform live at the the Highline Ballroom.
Soon to be released, Nikki & Rich’s debut album is a sparkling collection of exuberant ’60s-inspired gems. Thanks to Nikki Leonti’s sassy, high-stepping vocal quality, she captures all the fun and vitality of classic ’60s girl groups, but as heard on “Cat & Mouse,” the sound is made thoroughly modern by Rich Velonskis’ hard-hitting, radio-ready beats and keyboard textures. Imagine The Chiffons’ Judy Craig or The Marvelettes’ Gladys Horton backed by OutKast and you’re not far off.
8 PM show. 21+ w/ID.
Space is limited. Entry is free but strictly RSVP only.
