Following Erykah Badu on Twitter this morning, we get a glimpse of the challenging record production process. Last night she announced that she had 24 hours to clear a Paul McCartney sample or her song would not make the album. Ultimately the powers of @fatbellybella made this thing – clearing samples – a notoriously long, difficult, often impossible process- into an incredibly easy link-up. And it looks like the sample has been cleared already, so we’ll be happy to hear that particular track on the next New Amerykah!

“Window Seat,” another single from New Amerykah came out last week.
Buy it here on iTunes.
Donate a dollar for Haiti and get this dope gypsy track from Beats Antique: the download of “Les Enfants Perdus – The Lost Children” in your choice of 320k mp3, FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire. The bluesy experimental track includes samples from singers and drummers in Haiti, plus samples of workers breaking stone with their axes.
When their record label comes through to shoot a professional video about them, Paper Tongues find a way to get around them: by making their own EPK. These guys are fun but don’t be fooled by their goofy play, they’re intensely driven and the music is passionate and strong. Anyone who’s seen them live will attest to that. They’ll be at Bonnaroo, Bamboozle, 98Rockfest along with all their other shows: check their tour dates here.
Did you know the new Gil Scott-Heron record I’m New Here has a some special vinyl-only tracks? Gilles knows. This week Gilles also features a mix by Kalabrese out of Zurich, Switzerland.

The early 90s saw Omara Portuondo trying to retire from the limelight of Cuban music and settle into a relaxed existence, but after she was featured in The Buena Vista Social Club documentary there was no turning back. The singer released, to international acclaim, The Buena Vista Social Club Presents Omara Portuondo re-enforcing her status as one of the greatest things to reach us from Cuba (arguably since Mojitos).
The Gracias Tour featuring piano virtuoso Roberto Fonseca will be reaching New York City this Saturday, February 27 at Town Hall. This is a rare opportunity for you to catch some of the best Cuban music, so buy your tickets now.
