If you’re in London on September 11th this year, why not spend the day learning some history with Tongues on Fire: A Tribute to the Black Panthers. The multi-artform event features David Murray, The Last Poets and The Roots at The Barbican. Check out what The Guardian has to say about The Last Poets' connection to politics in the late '60s- early '70s in their article After the Party: Music and The Black Panthers.
Below, listen to a classic track from the Last Poets' 1970 self-titled album and check out another vintage flyer from the days when The Last Poets were honored performers for The Groove Academy.

Gilles Peterson starts off this week with a tribute to legendary jazz singer Abbey Lincoln, who just passed away a few weeks ago. Gilles plays her track with Max Roach and the appropriately titled "Long As You're Living." Later he gets into other acts like Systema Solar, Oriol, Moonstarr, Leatherette, Finn Peters and of course, more music you've never heard before.
Gilles also has a special guest mix from Uproot Andy (pictured above) of Brooklyn, a resident DJ at the weekly 'Que Bajo' party at Santos Party House (NYC). His mix involves lots of globally-influenced remixes of Los Rakas, Amadou and Mariam, Chief Boimba and more.
Check out the video for Big Boi's dedication to all the wack DJs out there, you know the ones, just hittin' that instant replay. Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is available now and it's most definitely one of the best hip-hop albums this year. The digital version of the album included several videos ("Follow Us," "Shutterbug," "General Patton"), but this one featuring Yelawolf is brand new.
The Foreign Exchange's new album Authenticity will be self-released October 12, and now we have a download: "Maybe She'll Dream Of Me." The track features piano by Zo! and the usual duo of Phonte and Nicolay. It sounds like this will be another leap forward for the group, after the 2010 Grammy nomination for "Daykeeper ft. Muhsinah" off the last album, Leave it All Behind.
