Jamie XX, whose remix of Gil Scott-Heron's "New York is Killing Me" quickly became a GPWW favorite, continues to make waves. His remix of Adele's beautiful single "Rolling In the Deep" is truly out there. It's stripped and distorted, but somehow doesn't lose any momentum.
A free mixtape from M.I.A. surfaced recently with the name Vicki Leekx. It sounds like a mix of her old stuff (the alleged 'Diplo demos' released via funny domain-name-purchases after the release of /\/\/\Y/\, like "Let Me Hump You") together with some raw new stuff. As usual with M.I.A., there's no lack of personal, biting political and social commentary. The title alone should tip you off.

We were deeply saddened to hear about the loss of the legendary singer Teena Marie, who passed away on December 26th, 2010 at the age of 54. Giant Step was lucky to work with Teena, including her 2009 album, Congo Square, a long way from her past as a Rick James protege. She spent much of 2009 and 2010 touring in support of the new album, and delighting fans with her super-hits like "Lovergirl," "Ooo La La La" and "Lead Me On."
In one of many many artist tributes, Sy Smith teamed up with Mark de Clive-Lowe to release a syberized version of "Lovergirl." Check out the Bandcamp page to read words from Sy Smith about the track and the importance of Lady T.
