For the last 23 years, the Blue Note New York has maintained Blue Note clubs in multiple Japanese cities, with current establishments in Tokyo and Nagoya. In light of the recent earthquake and tsunami, the Blue Note New York will host a jazz benefit concert at the Highline Ballroom tonight — April 18th — and tomorrow with 100% of the ticket proceeds to be donated to the Japan Relief and Recovery Fund spearheaded by Direct Relief.
The event will feature an impressive roster of internationally known jazz musicians including: Madeleine Peyroux, Ron Carter, John Scofield, René Fleming, Michel Camilo, Kenny Barron, Paquito D'Rivera, Robert Glasper, Roy Hargrove, Dave Valentin, Roberta Gambarini, Richard Bona, Lionel Loueke, Gretchen Parlato, Gregoire Maret, Ann Hampton Callaway, Jose James, Christian Scott, Alex Brown, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Lew Tabackin and many, many more.
Doors open at 6pm, and show starts at 7pm both nights. An after-hours party will be held both nights starting at 11pm with performances by Robert Glasper, Sarah Hayes, Eldar, and many more.
