J Rocc (of The Beat Junkies fame and Stones Throw family) is dropping hot mixes all over, which is nothing new, but now it’s all about his new album Some Cold Rock Stuf. Above is a great video for “Stay Fresh,” shot by Mayer Hawthorne on his iPhone and edited on the flight back to LA. (budget? what’s a budget?) Below, grab another track from the album for download, “Play This Too” and check out J Rocc’s special with Benji B on BBC’s Radio1.

And if you’re the kinda fan that loves rare merch, check here to get even more J Rocc goodies, including ‘mystery discs’ and posters of the artwork by Jeff Jank, the artist responsible for the indie hip-hop label’s distinctive look.

Tru Thoughts are launching an original video series, and we’re thrilled that they’re kicking it off with this video, which features Nostalgia 77 and Josa Peit performing an acoustic version of “Cherry,” from the latest album, Sleepwalking Society. As the BBC said in their review, the production throughout the album “offers a sense of clarity and understated confidence” – a musical trait clearly evident in this video.

Jessie J’s New Release: Who You Are + “Nobody’s Perfect (Netsky Remix)”

Jessie J‘s album Who You Are was released on Universal Republic this week, and unsurprisingly it rose to the top of the charts. You may already know that we jumped on the Jessie wagon early and we’re proud; see The Boombox Series Part 1 – “Who You Are” and Part 2 – “Price Tag”. A few days after we shot The Boombox Series with Arcade 44, her video for “Do It Like A Dude” came out and she blew up. By popular demand, her release date was moved up to this week. Stomp stomp she arrived!

Loose Ends with DJ Mark Fulla Flava – 4/16

Do you remember Loose Ends from back in the 80s? Me neither. However what with the 80s and 90s firmly becoming the latest wave of retro-chic in music (and everything else), a lot of the old goodies from that period are resurfacing now, like this British R&B trio that crossed the pond in the early 80s and became the very first British export to top the Billboard R&B charts.

Well folks they’re back on the road and Giant Step, with our friends at The Shrine in Chicago, are excited to be showcasing them on Saturday, April 16th, backed by Verzatile and special guest DJ Mark Fulla Flava. Doors open at 8pm, and show starts at 9pm. In the meantime, check out these videos below to get you contemplating.
