GPWW 4/27/11: The First ‘All Winners’ of 2011

This is a massive 60-track collection of the best Gilles Peterson approved music released so far in 2011 – from heavy modal jazz, to indie hip-hop, to the new wave of electronic production, on which we don’t want to slap a label yet. Only the best in this edition, as every ‘Worldwide Winners’ show goes. The first hour includes an Jamie XX Remix of Adele, FaltyDL, Addison Groove, Thom Yorke with Burial & Four Tet, Dimlite. Gilles gives the Best Album of the Year title to James Blake. Later he pulls out some more GPWW staples: Jamie Woon, The Stepkids, Prommer & Barck, Cubic Zirconia, and somehow he moves from Radiohead into Chris Brown. It’s another not-to-be-missed episode of the worldwide show, All Winners 2011 special.

Nickodemus Featuring The Real Live Show, Sadat X, iLLspokinN and Rabbi Darksode – “A New York Minute” + MP3

The latest record by Nickodemus, A New York Minute, features The Real Live Show, Sadat X, iLLspokinN and Rabbi Darkside plus a couple remixes. The “Summer of 77 Mix” heads into hip-hop territory as the hand-selected MC’s each have a personal story to tell before they pass the mic. The production is funky with 70′s Afro-funk break, organ drops & rapid fire guitar licks – not to mention plenty of shine on the mic from all the MC’s involved. The “Barrio Bump Mix” offers a more percussive dancefloor swing to the same stories, but in a live-at-the-BBQ fashion. Look out for a video coming soon…

Yael Naim – New Album + Live Shows in NY (5/9) and LA (5/16)

Thanks to the runaway success of her international hit “New Soul,” Yael Naim’s self-titled 2007 release propelled this French-Israeli singer-songwriter on a yearlong promotional trek around the globe. Naim’s stunning new album, She Was a Boy (which has already surpassed Gold status in France), collects 13 luminous folk-pop gems, each recorded at the singer’s apartment-turned-workshop. Upbeat tunes like “Come Home,” “Stupid Goal” and “Go to the River” will instantly appeal to fans of “New Soul,” though She Was a Boy presents a serious expansion of Naim’s sound as well.

Check out her upcoming appearances in NY and LA – She’ll be at Le Poisson Rouge on May 9 in NY, and she’ll be at Hotel Cafe on May 16th in LA.

Boom Clap Bachelors Video – “Løb Stop Stå”

Boom Clap Bachelors – Løb Stop Stå from Plug Research on Vimeo.

This Boom Clap Bachelors video is a bit like Little Dragon‘s video for “Never Never,” in that it exclusively features the singer of the group. And in both cases, we’re mesmerized watching them do anything at all. Here’s Coco O. of Quadron taking a ride in a convertible, in “Løb Stop Stå” by Boom Clap Bachelors.
