Amp Live & Jazz Mafia Remix Tyler the Creator: “Yonkers,” “Goblinz,” and “Radicals” + MP3s

We love the Bay Area. Biased we may be due to certain staff affiliations, we are justifiably geeked to present you with a particularly snazzy set of remixes by Amp Live (of Zion I) and Bay Area jazz collective, Jazz Mafia. The highly hailed musicians joined forces to remix three Tyler the Creator tracks from his recent album, Goblin – “Yonkers,” “Goblinz,” and “Radicals.” Amp and the Mafia really got busy with this ish; Mixing live instrumentation with electronic embellishments, the jazz-hop backdrop glides, bangs, and even throbs, creating an eerily dissonant perfection with Tyler’s sinister tracks.

Video: Grieves – “On The Rocks”

Take a look at Brooklyn-based singer/emcee Grieves and you might mistake him for just another punk rocker or skater dude; Take a listen and you may be surprised to realize that the guy is undeniably soulful, though he does cite punk rock as an influence. Just yesterday, Grieves released his Together/Apart album on Rhymesayers with Seattle’s Budo on production. Inspired by emotional turmoil during life transitions, the album addresses music’s power to bond individuals together despite them being physically apart. Above you’ll find the first video from the project for “On The Rocks; this one hits the spot.

Free Download: Hassaan Mackey – Soul For Sale

So, uh. Talk about slept on. Mello Music Group continues their “Free Friday” series with Hassaan Mackey’s 2007 release, Soul For Sale. A refreshingly smooth listen, the album delivers a careful blend of nostalgic 90′s hip hop sounds while still bearing a modern mood. We are so glad the good folks at Mello Music Group put this one back on our radar. We’ll be checking for Hassaan’s upcoming Daily Bread (July 28th) release with producer Apollo Brown, too. Another free download will be up on Friday, so go grab this before then!

dÉbruit + “Mezdé” Video

French producer dÉbruit is something else. Traveling to different countries to gain inspiration and learn their musical traditions, this sound architect makes us understand music as the playtime so many musicians revel in. When dÉbruit relocated to London, he lived in a Turkish neighborhood where his curiosity eventually birthed his latest EP, Şiş Sürpriz. Naturally, the work couples traditional Turkish folks instruments with choppy head-knocking electronic sounds. The most recent video from the EP is for the textured and tasty track, “Mezdé,” which provides visuals just as bold as the bassy sounds. His debut album is in production and will center around trips to West Africa. It’s going to be killer, we already know.
