Video: Kutiman – “Thru Jerusalem”

Kutiman has a new YouTube piece out and it’s kind of rocking our world. Part of his ThruYou series, this one’s a little different; Instead of trawling the web for obscure snippets and masterly weaving them into a single piece of audible glory, Kutiman chose to work from original content this time. Traveling to Jerusalem, he met with and filmed different musicians in the historic and diverse city. The piece is pretty epic; Kuti’s signature treatment serves as a beautiful reminder of how different but similar everything can be. Take a look at previous works of Kutiman we’ve posted, as well.

New Track: Van Hunt – “June” + MP3

Last time we caught up with Van Hunt was during an interview in August of 2009 while he was still working on the record he’s now about to release. Close to two years later, the ever-funky soul maestro is ready to share a new track called “June” (free for download below). But this is just the beginning; Van plans to sprinkle some free download goodness on us every month leading up to the release of his new album, What Were You Hoping For? (out September 27th). Among the freebies will be the album’s first single, “Eyes Like Pearls,” which is slated to hit radio this summer. Sir Hunt has also relaunched his official website, – it’ll be another place you can download and find out more on the awesomeness ahead.

Ninety Miles NYC Album Release feat. Stefon Harris, David Sanchez, & Christian Scott @ S.O.B.’s – Win Tickets + MP3

It’s always refreshing to see artists experiment and take an “out of the box” approach to their craft. Such is the case with the Cuban American Jazz phenomenon Ninety Miles featuring Stefon Harris (Vibes), David Sánchez (Saxophone), and Christian Scott (Trumpet). Recorded entirely in Havana, Cuba, with the help of some highly talented Cuban players Rember Duharte and Harold Lopez-Nussa, Ninety Miles is an experiment that examines the fascinating chemical reaction that takes place when musicians from different cultures come together and converse in a common language that transcends mere words.

Out June 21st, the album also includes a bonus DVD with two live performances and a sneak peek (see above video) of the forthcoming documentary that chronicles the recording process of the album, and features guest appearances by Cuban musicians. Also on June 21st will be the album release show at @ S.O.B.’s — try your luck at winning tickets while you’re at it.
