Mecca:83 – ‘Life Sketches’ EP

Having already received love from our man Gilles Peterson, Manchester based beat technician Mecca:83 has made us quite happy with his recent Life Sketches EP. The mood is mellow, easily shifting between electronic, hip hop, and soul sounds. It’s pretty frickin sexy, really. Might we suggest it as a summer boo wooing device?

Video: Electric Wire Hustle – “Again” + European Tour Dates

Many of you probably remember being as ecstatic as we were when you first heard Electric Wire Hustle, probably sometime last year. A couple days ago, they returned with a video for “Again” off their debut album. Filmed as a time lapse in New York City’s Time Square, director Vibol Moeung attributes the inspiration behind the video to the first lines of the song, “I have no sense of time.” He found Times Square an ideal place to create a “uniquely overwhelming visual cacophony of lights, billboards, people, traffic & movement…as if being in a hallucinogenic dream-like state.”

We are also super geeked to hear that the group is steady at work on their sophomore album, which should be ready for release in early 2012.

New Tracks: Hawthorne Headhunters – “If You Were My Baby” & “Teleport” + MP3

Coultrain and Black Spade are Hawthorne Headhunters. Been a minute since we’ve heard from either of them, so we’re excited to hear that the duo will be releasing their full-length debut, Myriad of Now, in 2012. To get us ready, they’ve blessed us with a double single, including “If You Were My Baby” and “Teleport.” Both are available for streaming below and “If You Were My Baby” is a free download as well. Personality is something that neither of these artists lack in the least. As such, the result is a funky fusion of soul music that vibrates on frequencies unchartered.
