Timothy Bloom Announces US Tour Dates

    July 21st, 2011

Having already written and produced songs for Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, and Smokey Robinson, Timothy Bloom is well on his way. Most recently, he’s left swooning audiences eagerly awaiting his forthcoming debut album with his The Budding Rose EP. The EP’s sultry lead single, “Til the End of Time” created much buzz, due in part to the ballad’s tastefully provocative video directed by David Rodriguez.

Catch Bloom across stages nationwide this summer. The tour starts in Los Angeles on July 29th, and ends on the east coast with Philadelphia on August 30th and Vienna, VA on September 1st.

GPWW: 7/14/11: Fonce Mizell Tribute and Machinedrum Worldwide Family Mixtape

    July 20th, 2011

In this episode, the overall theme of Gilles Peterson’s WorldWide Show is minimalism. He opens the show with an eclectic track from London producer James Blake, proceeding on to play Dego’s instrumental “The Monarch,” and then giving us a taste of Jill Scott’s newest album with the neo soul number “Rolling Hills.”

Gilles also pays tribute to the great producer Fonce Mizell, who recently passed away. The tribute segment includes some of Mizell’s work with Bobbi Humphrey, Marvin Gaye, and Taste of Honey. For the weekly Worldwide Family Mixtape Gilles enlists multi-instrumentalist producer Machinedrum to bless us with a varied mix of tunes. Machinedrum is based out of Brooklyn and recently released an LP called Room(s) through indie electronic label Planet Mu.

New Release: Hassaan Mackey & Apollo Brown – ‘Daily Bread’ + “Volume” MP3

    July 20th, 2011

We’ve already been knocking this one hard. Yesterday Apollo Brown and Hassaan Mackey released their debut self-titled album as Daily Bread. Detroit-based Apollo Brown singlehandedly produced the album and Rochester’s Hassaan Mackey handles emcee duty thoroughly. Be prepared for chills and the like.

We are very excited to share one of our favorite tracks off the album, “Volume,” for free download. The song also happens to be a favorite of the duo’s as Hassan relates, “Yo man, that was the first beat Apollo played when I walked in his crib in Detroit…this was the first song I wrote to when I got there, and we knew it was the lead joint.”

Video: TV on the Radio – “Caffeinated Consciousness”

    July 20th, 2011

TV on The Radio’s video for “Caffeinated Consciousness” has already made us press play about twelve times. We’re not sure what’s happening, but we think that the song keeps ending before we want it to and thus, we must repeat incessantly. Or perhaps it’s that flying carpet hippie scene that makes us melt. Either way, this song and video are an all around win. As if it couldn’t get any better, the video is part of an hour long movie by TV on the Radio that was released back in April.

With the video also comes the release of remixes for “Caffeinated Consciousness” and “Will Do,” which are available exclusively on iTunes. Check out the video for “Will Do” that we posted a few months back as well!

Muhsinah Releases ‘Gone’ Free Double EP

    July 20th, 2011

Muhsinah’s newest project is just a little too incredible to be free. Over the past couple years, we’ve observed Muhsinah’s social network musings and seen her process her growth as an artist, all the while wondering what’s next. What’s clear is that Muhsinah did not spend a bit of that time in vain. A creative to the core, Muhsinah has chosen to traverse new territory with her sound and pulled it off flawlessly.

Throwing in some rock, dance, and even punk, Muhsinah might go through a single track sharing likeness with both Kenna and Brandy, while still being herself. She’s your secret favorite radio hit, your throwback punk jam from middle school, and your underground genre-shifter all at the same time – homegirl is not playing any games.

After winning a trip to Aruba to open for Jennifer Hudson, an inspired Muhsinah turned a single EP into her Gone “double EP” – meaning two EP’s in one. The first EP is called Urban, while the second one is called Suburban. Enter your email into the widget below to download Gone!
