You may already know Skylar Grey’s work if you’ve heard Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” – she was the songwriter behind the #1 single. Now take a peek into Skylar’s world with her gritty and absorbing video for “Dance Without You,” which is also the first video from her debut album, Invisible (out this fall). It’s one of those pop tracks with just that “umpf” – undeniably addictive.

GPWW 7/21/2011: Worldwide Festival Catchup and 2 Bears Worldwide Family Mixtape

Gilles Peterson continues to give us more goodness in this installment with music from artists like Jill Scott, Machinedrum, and the recently re-united Pyramids. For a good chunk of the show Gilles plays for us some of the highlights from his annual Worldwide Festival that took place last week in France. Particularly interesting is Jamie xx‘s mix, kicked off by his latest single “Far Nearer” that’s attracting a lot of international attention at the moment with its steel drum Calypso orchestration.

Lotus Gears Up for Self-Titled Album + US Tour this Fall

Instrumental post-rock and electronic dance band Lotus is set to release its third full-length studio album September 13th via SCI Fidelity Records. The self-titled album finds the band moving in a decidedly more electronic direction, while still staying true to their organic roots.

Analog synthesizers, manipulated sounds, dub effects and heavy bass are balanced by horns and string arrangements in addition to Lotus’s standard guitar/bass/drums instrumentation. Grooves range from slinky funk and gritty half-time on the first half of the album to the beautiful and expansive closing track “Orchids.” Below is a stream for their song “Blacklight Sunflare.

The band has become a staple on the festival circuit as its unique musical voice fits in everywhere from Bonnaroo to Ultra Music Fest. Earlier this month, Lotus co-headlined Red Rocks Amphitheatre with The Glitch Mob to a sold out audience who danced the night away under the clear Colorado sky.

Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys) and Mike Rempel (Guitar).
