New Track: MeShell Ndegeocello – “Dirty World” + MP3

Meshell Ndegeocello’s new album, Weather, will be out November 8th. Produced by Grammy-winner Joe Henry, who has also worked with miss Ani DiFranco, Weather is full of ethereal orchestral melodies and some serious live instrumentation. If “Dirty World,” is any indication, we see that Meshell continues with her genre mashing and experimentation as well as her otherworldly songwriting. There are even bits of this track that remind us of Comfort Woman, possibly our favorite Meshell album.

Mia Doi Todd has an incredibly soothing sound; it’s as if any sound that exits her lips becomes a gorgeous lullaby. Her music is folky, soulful, and global, traversing Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, France, and India.

You may recognize Mia from the recent Captain Planet “Paraty” remix we posted, the Red Hot + Rio 2 project, or her “All My City” video we shared back in June.

Today, we share with you a live clip of Mia’s beautiful performance of “Um Girassol da Cor do Seu Cabelo” from Red Hot + Rio 2.

Also, we are pleased to share an exclusive free download from her most recent album, Cosmic Ocean Ship – “Canto de Iemanjá” is an Afro Samba tribute to the great Orisha of the Ocean by Baden Powell and Vinícius de Moraes.

Video: Jesse Boykins III – “Back Home”

[kml_flashembed movie="" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

In preparing this post, we may have already played this back about twelve times. Addicted much? “Back Home (Mermaids & Dragons)” is most certainly our favorite track from Jesse Boykins III’s new Way of a Wayfarer EP. Coupling Jesse’s ever-dreamy vocals with Gold Panda’s spellbinding cinematic production, makes for an ecstatic paralysis lost in wonder. We need to see this on a soundtrack, now; the scene: an earnest search with imminent victory.

Comparing this video to Jesse’s role plays in his previous narrations, we appreciate the singer’s stripped down personal documentary approach to this video – even the sexy soul man is a goof like us. We love it.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of downloading the free EP – produced almost entirely by Gold Panda with “Zoner” by Jesse himself – get to business, homies.
