What a beautiful track. “Isomer” is a song just immediately pulls you into a cinematic dream sequence. With its pulsing yet fuzzy instrumentation and airy unearthly melodies, we sort of never want to let go. The voice is that of Angela Correa, frontwoman of Los Angeles based band Correatown. The band will be putting out their first non-indie release on September 20th, Pleiades.
The lovely Nikki Jean will be gracing the Mercury Lounge in NYC for a live concert next Wednesday! The performance will be Nikki Jean’s NYC debut and is open to everyone, so make sure to get your tickets! Come out and celebrate Nikki’s first release, Pennies In A Jar! It’s bound to be an incredible night.

Diving right into this latest episode of the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Show, Gilles opens up with nothing but mellow grooves a la Weldon Irvine, King of Nostalgia, and a track called “Is This Love?” from Thundercat’s recently released The Golden Age of Apocalypse. If you know Gilles then you know it’s only a matter of time before things speed up, and this comes in the form of a mix from Spanish ensemble Bassfort, composed of Wagon Cookin’ and Nacho.

We are delighted to hear that John West has premiered his video for “Lovely” featuring Pusha T of the rap duo The Clipse.
Mr. West has done very well for himself in this sensual, yet elegant video with his soulful, airy groove and beautiful tenor sound. Add Pusha T’s easy going flows and “Lovely” will make you want to stay in with your special someone sipping on a glass of wine while enjoying the simple pleasures of their company on a beautiful city night.

Ten time Grammy winner George Benson has released an inspiring video teaser for his upcoming album, Guitar Man, which as one might guess, highlights the jazz legend’s guitar playing. This album is going to be for everyone, though, with a healthy mix of jazz and pop standards. We’re excited.
The Black Opera and its elusiveness return with the final video from their Overture project. The “M.A.S.H.” video shows opera masked vigilantes conducting a scheme against the oppression of corporate America. The triumphant track compels and sticks to your eardrum, permeating like a mantra. The desaturated visuals echo the grim mood, with blacks, whites, and greys, keeping the focus on the task at hand – justice.

Now this is some groovy ish. DJ Center and Gretchen Parlato’s cover of Rufus and Chaka’s “You Got the Love” is beautifully remixed by Sam Champ. If this song was a cloud, we’d float on it. Awesomeness. The track is a free download for the week – grab it fast!

Our pal Jesse Boykins III told us we needed to hear this cat named Chris Turner, so looked him up. Chris is a super talented vocalist from Oakland that also happens to be Bilal’s backup singer. After a little chat with Chris, we stumbled onto his band, ERIMAJ. The core of the band consists of drummer and band leader Jamire Williams, trombonist and composer Corey King, and of course, Chris Turner on the vocals.
“Conflict Of A Man” is the group’s first single with this hazy dreamscape of a video directed by none other than miss Tiombe Lockhart. The sound is jazzy and soulful, with vocals reminiscent of Bilal. All these New School alums are on some serious voltron status. Go ahead, y’all. Sounding great.
We are ecstatic about this right here. Strange Fruit Project has released their first album since 2006’s The Healing, which of course, we loved. A Dreamer’s Journey shows the hip-hop trio continuing with their off center sounds but this time with a slightly dirtier, grittier sound. Prepare yourself for rhymes that glide and electric beats that always keep you on your toes.
