    Video: I Love Vinyl + 3rd Anniversary Party @ LPR – May 26

    May 24th, 2012

These kids are serious about their vinyl and this video counts all the hilarious, laborious ways. And it just makes the I Love Vinyl crew all that much adorabler – yes, we said adorabler. They better all be prepared for awkwardly long individual squeezes from us next time we cross paths. And we’re going to go ahead and guess that said path crossing is not too far away – watch yo’ back, pals! Or front? Side?

The highly praised and award-winning party is celebrating three years this Saturday at Le Poisson Rouge. And indeed, as always, this is a laptop free situation – it’s gonna be all vinyl, all night compliments of some of NYC’s finest DJs. The residents: Amir, Ge-Ology, The Twilite Tone, OP!, Scribe, and Jon Oliver. *Wipes up drool*

And for those that somehow haven’t yet been, this isn’t some post up against the wall joint – get ready to move something. Come with open ears and arms for “some soul, disco, dilla, boogie, hustle, hip-hop, old-school house, no wave, new jack swing, dancefloor jazz, bossa nova, salsa, funk, electro, and afrobeat.” We think they might be showing off a little.

New Track: Brandee Younger – “He Has A Name (Awareness)”

    May 23rd, 2012

Classically trained harpist and our friend Brandee Younger recently created a beautiful heartfelt song in memory of the late Trayvon Martin and the injustice he suffered.

“He Has A Name (Awareness)” aims to help “bring awareness to the issues of racial profiling and injustice today and…open our eyes to reality instead of holding to irrational beliefs due to preconceived notions.”

She goes on to share the personal impact the case had on her, “For me, having a teenage brother who appears not unlike Trayvon, I can’t help but be fearful that he will be judged unfairly, based on stereotypes and appearance.”

All proceeds from the sale of the track will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to support its continued work towards racial justice.

Hear the track below and purchase on Bandcamp to support this important cause.

    Video: Johnny Popcorn – “Power”

    May 23rd, 2012

Awww yeah. Now this is some catchy ish. Hezekiah Davis and Tone Whitfield are Johnny Popcorn, a Philly based rock, soul, and hip-hop outfit. “Power” is a snappy lo-fi garage vibe track which kind of feels like it could be a less dark and dense Hanni El Khatib tune.

The video features a slew of running babes stripping to their hearts’ content amidst good ol’ nature. “Power” is a track off the duo’s March 2012 album, The Crow, which you can stream in full below.

Video: Happy Mayfield – “Jesse James”

    May 23rd, 2012

Rambunctious Bay Area soul and funk band The Park join indie-country/roots artist Lee Bob Watson together form Happy Mayfield. Along with the ever dynamic Darondo, this bunch have recently released Silvercloud Time Machine, a project that honors two generations of Bay Area funk.

The first single, “Jesse James” is accompanied by a vintage style video with a thrilling chase scene straight out of the 70s. Turns out the video happens to only be the first part of a longer narrative of “crime, mystery, and romance.”
