New Release: Captain Planet – ‘Remixes/Remixed’


Following up on his smashing debut album, Cookin’ Gumbo, released last fall, Captain Planet has brought us yet another bag of gifts. The Remixes/Remixed 12″ and digi-EP includes dance floor blazing remixes of Los Chicharrons and Chip Wickham, as well as several takes on Captain Planet’s own “Get You Some” – all can be streamed below.

The digital version includes cuts from remix contest runners up, Lil’ Dave and PDF, as well as a super smooth remix by Erik The Red.

Also, for free download is the soulful and sassy electro-boogie reflip of “Get You Some” by the Captain himself!

Bobby Womack To Release ‘The Bravest Man in the Universe’ + MP3 Stream & Tracklist

Bobby Womack has some news. On June 12th, folks in the US can look out for an album of original material co-produced by Damon Albarn and Richard Russell. Called The Bravest Man in the Universe, the work will feature Bobby Womack’s original material for the first time since 1994.

Rest In Peace, Jimmy Ellis (1937 – 2012)


Soul singer and frontman of the Trammps, Jimmy Ellis, has died at the age of 74. He passed away yesterday in Rock Hill, South Carolina from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Jimmy was a huge influence on funk and soul music; he helped lay the foundation for generations of artists to come. He was best known as the singer of the band’s 1976 song “Disco Inferno,” which became a smash hit in the United States in 1978 after it was included on the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever.

Jimmy’s contributions are truly immortalized – and will not be forgotten.

Gilles Peterson Launches New Show on BBC Radio 6

Saturdays will have a new look starting April 7th, when renowned and much loved presenter Gilles Peterson launches a new Saturday show from 3pm-6pm on BBC Radio 6.

Gilles will extend Radio 6’s musical range by stirring up more soul, jazz, hip hop, and dance to the network. He states, “I feel extremely lucky and privileged to be joining BBC Radio 6 Music after 13 years on Radio 1. The level of music appreciation by the presenters and listeners is really exciting for me and I’m sure there’s much I can learn to aid me and continue the journey I’ve been on since my pirate radio days. I feel like I’m coming home before I’ve even been there.”
