Hailed by the New York Times as “a gentle virtuoso,” Lionel approaches Heritage with a journey into a more electric sound with his new trio, including Derrick Hodge (electric bass), Mark Guiliana (drums), and Robert Glasper contributing piano and keyboards on six tracks. Singer Gretchen Parlato offers background vocals on two tracks, further weaving the already beautiful tapestry of sound.
In the below video, get a behind the scenes look at the recording process of Heritage. And next week, join Lionel as he kicks of his fall tour, beginning with three shows at NYC’s Blue Note September 4-6.

Sierra Leone born Brit Adian Coker is not only an emcee but boasts a background in classical guitar, piano, and drums. Today SoulCulture premiered a video for the theatrical track, “Angels & Demons,” which will appear on Adian’s upcoming mixtape. Not sure we could ever grow tired of British-tinged rap.
