The free-form artist collective and record label (headed up by Academy graduate Flying Lotus), hosts a showcase in New York with a sub-rattling night celebrating the release of The Gaslamp Killer’s debut album Breakthrough. Joining the posse, label affiliates – and Academy family – Dorian Concept and Martyn add a layer of post-everything electronics to the mix, plus Jeremiah Jae, Taylor McFerrin, The Underachievers and very special guests. Shut your eyes, open your mind and feel the psychedelic roadshow.

SBTRKT returns to Terminal 5 with his full live outfit, including Sampha on vocal duties. Support comes courtesy of Kilo Kish, Dr. Nick Hook, and Koreless – one of the 60 music makers selected to attend the Red Bull Muisc Academy’s 2013 term in New York City. Don’t sleep, this might be your last chance to catch the masked marauder for quite a while.

From dropping underground anthems on labels like Domino and Ninja Tune and Numbers and Young Turks respectively, to redefining the very concept of pop, Four Tet and Jamie xx are two of the most influential artists of our time, period. In between new releases for both, the Red Bull Music Academy offers New York a rare opportunity to witness two of the finest producers and selectors on either side of the pond hit the decks for an extended back-to-back DJ set. Warming up the night will be Eglo Records honcho and all-round musical maverick, Floating Points.

Perennially glamorous with outrageous style, Grace Jones’s work, look, and sound has been an inspiration for New York’s disco and house scene since the early days onwards. Now, 35 years after her debut album, we are excited to pay tribute to this true NYC icon with an exclusive show at the storied Roseland Ballroom. See firsthand how she keeps us all slaves to the rhythm. Plus support from Ghe20Goth1k’s Venu$ X & $hayne.

Video: Chrisette Michele Talks Audrey Hepburn Mixtape + New Album (SoulCulture TV)

[kml_flashembed movie="" width="550" height="445" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

Coming this December, Chrisette Michele will be releasing An Audiovisual Presentation: Audrey Hepburn, The Mixtape. Amidst traversing London, Paris, Belgium, Amsterdam to retrace miss Hepburn’s footsteps, the soul diva sat down with SoulCulture TV to discuss the upcoming mix tape as well as her fourth album, Better.

Chrisette addresses her openness to real love, the importance of self-expression and passion projects, as well as her relative absence from the spotlight:

“I’ve been travelling a lot over the last two year period, performing a lot… and being quiet. Figuring out what’s on the inside,” she says softly, addressing her absence. “I had spent so much time being loud and being seen that I needed a minute. I’m not good with the whole be-seen thing; I suck at it. So I needed a second to be quiet.”

Looks like we have some very interesting art to look forward to!
