Jonesy returns with a plethora of tasty jams from the 60’s and the 70’s. This latest edition is filled with soul and funk jams from the likes of Johnny Nash, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and Rod Stewart just to name a few.
Suckers we are for some good instrumentals. UK producer J Biscuits put out a winsome EP called Quests this past December that we just can’t stop playing.
The eastern influences added to this mellow set of electronic hip hop beats are super appreciated. Yes, there’s a sitar in the mix, a little bit of freakage of what sounds like a traditional old school Bollywood tune, and a sample of some classic east Indian vocals. This makes us just a little weak.
Please do enjoy as thoroughly as we are – it has somehow, generously been made a free download. And also thank our pals over at Potholes In My Blog for sharing!
Oh yes. This is some newness that would be criminal to overlook. The much admired Meshell Ndegeocello has produced a debut project for some pals called Jason Lindner Gives You Now Vs Now.
Now vs Now is an electro-jazz trio with soul to spare. The band’s members are some pretty powerful musical talents – keyboardist/composer Jason Lindner (Meshell Ndegeocello, Lauryn Hill), bassist/vocalist Panagiotis Andreou (Yerba Buena) and drummer Mark Guiliana (Heernt, Beat Music).
Below is an incredible free download from the debut project called “Far.” The intro lasts just under two minutes, so make sure you don’t miss these guys really getting down.
Finally, NYC folks should not miss the free live show later tonight! Details below.

Gorgeousness. San Francisco producer Blackbird Blackbird released a beautiful electronic tune called “Tears” late last year. At times, the song is a little reminiscent of The XX if you fancy them.
The video, though – wow. Sets off the song in a whole new way. It’s simple but profound with it’s juxtaposition of fast moving light flares and landscapes. Love the double exposure effect as well. So lovely.
