Hailing from South East London, Rainy Milo put up her first track “Bout You” at the age of 15, which was snapped up almost immediately by Gilles Peterson for his Brownswood Bubblers 8 compilation. She’s also self-released her much loved Limey EP.
“Rats” is a slice of quintessential Rainy Milo. She effortlessly sketches another teen scene in a collection of lines from the diary – then comes a thundering descending bass line courtesy of her production team Caswell and Daje. It’s London teen ‘tude, wrapped up in a cloud-hopping number, backed magnificently by her characteristically deep production. “Deal Me Briefly,” with music produced by Chet Faker, sets the mood for Rainy to showcase her elegant vocals – airy and unique – with hints of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B throughout.
Rainy has a natural affinity with the rootsy sounds of South East London where she was born and raised with her Guyanese mother and British father. Her vocals are distinct, honeyed and soulful, but it’s her stage presence that is most beguiling; she slinks and winds with the aura of someone much older than her 17 years.
