If you like real jazz (and not just "jazzy" grooves) there are only a few acts outside the established jazz community that deliver the true spirit of the "blue notes." Povo (meaning "people" in Portuguese) is one of these rare acts. With a sophisticated blend of top-notch live jazz and subtle programmed rhythms, they have quickly made a name for themselves around the globe with their 12" single releases on the Raw Fusion label, and are supported by the most respected names in the jazz/dance genre, Gilles Peterson, Koop, Nicola Conte, Jazzanova and Kyoto Jazz Massive. Their sound is classic 60's Blue Note era quality with a nu-jazz twist.
At the core of Povo's sound are the duo of Lars Vissing and Anders Peter Andreasen. They hail from the Danish capitol, Copenhagen, a city rich in jazz history, making them the latest in a long line of respected (and collected) Scandinavian jazz musicians. While Lars has long been one of Denmark's leading jazz trumpeters and producers, Anders brings his experience and perspective as a record collector, DJ and club promoter since the late 80's. Together they form the both rare and perfect marriage of old-time jazz tradition and nu-jazz innovation. Breaking boundaries while staying true to their roots.
