Damn! began as a party. Back in 1995, four young dj/musicians from Malmo and Lund in the south of Sweden planted the seeds of what was to become the band with an event that featured them playing live instruments alongside their records. The party, whose musical spectrum included Cuban Son, Afrobeat, Hip-Hop, Classic Funk, Jazz, Latin, Folk/Rock, and Soul, was a huge success and soon became in demand as a traveling event. Writing more and more original material, the members decided to record and self-release an album. 'Natural Sounds' was recorded in the club's basement, and one of the tunes, "Stinky Stinky Ashtray", became a small cult hit and was later featured in Sex and the City. The band's growing reputation as the tightest, funkiest, and most versatile live band in Northern Europe led Timbuktu, one of Sweden's most respected and biggest hip hop stars, to hire Damn! as his backing band.
