Video: Ilhame – “Still Waiting” ft. Ky-Mani Marley (Bob Marley Cover)

    May 16th, 2012

Now based in LA, French-Moroccan vocalist Ilhame (pronounced “Eelum”) has got a very special treat for us Bob Marley lovers out there. “Still Waiting” is her cover of Bob’s “Waiting In Vain,” which also includes an breathtaking guest feature from Ky-Mani Marley.

The gorgeous video above is directed by our good pal Andre Power, and follows the darling Ilhame on a dreamy sequence of her day. Oh, and did we mention that the song is in French and Arabic?!

Look out for Ilhame’s debut album Just Wish It to drop this year – it’s going to feature Nicolay, Shafiq Husayn, T3, and Big Pooh, just to give you a little taste.

Video: Oddisee – “Ain’t That Peculiar” (Marvin Gaye Remixed)

    May 9th, 2012

In preparing for his upcoming album, People Hear What They See, Oddisee decided to give the internets something a little extra special this time. Herein is a remix of Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t That Peculiar,” which also includes a new verse by our man himself.

The remix is part of an EP called Odd Renditions, which includes similar reworks of songs by K-Os, Bon Iver, and Metronomy – look out for that to drop for free next week. Loving this so much!

The video collage above shows of footage of Marvin performing the original track. And did we mention that it’s synchronized to this new version? Ohhhh, yeah!

Video: Lianne La Havas – “Only Girl In The World” (Rihanna Cover)

    March 27th, 2012

Shivers. It’s as if Lianne La Havas can’t perform a song without leaving some sort of lasting psychosomatic effect on you. This time, the audible dream of a lady does a cover of Rihanna’s “Only Girl In The World.” Backed only by a piano, Lianne’s voice fills in the space with power to be reckoned with.

New Track: Yuna – “Live Your Life”

    February 2nd, 2012

Definitely one of our favorite voices right now – so refreshing, distinct with character. Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna recently released her inspiring “Live Your Life” single featuring production from none other than mister Pharrell Williams. The track is the first single from her upcoming self-titled album due this spring.

For those unfamiliar with Yuna, you absolutely must take a listen to her cover of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” after the jump.

Video: Michael Kiwanuka – “Whole Lotta Love” (Led Zeppelin Cover)

    January 12th, 2012

If this guy’s voice were a person, we would hold its hand and potentially never let go.

On the heels of his Home Again EP, Michael Kiwanuka just released a video of a live session at BBC’s Maida Vale Studios. The song? A cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” complete with some super sick sitar action. Man, is this guy dreamy. Killing it.

Video: Quadron – “Ex-Factor” (Lauryn Hill Cover)

    January 3rd, 2012

Coco of Quadron convenes with her bandmates to do a beautiful rendition of Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor.” Pretty incredible for an impromptu performance that’s basically a cappella. Gotta love the charming courtyard in Vienna and the elegant Coco is doing nothing less than killing it in that fit.

Video: James Blake – “A Case of You” + ‘Love What Happened Here’ EP

    December 20th, 2011

Been a minute since we’ve written about our boy James Blake. Last time was news that he’d released his Enough Thunder EP. Since then, he’s released a video for his Joni Mitchell cover of “A Case of You” off the aformentioned EP and a new 3-track EP called Love What Happened Here, which you can grab at the end of this post.

Accompanied by Blake’s beautiful sing-song, the video starts off warm and cozy, placing you inside the characters’ home as would a good book or film. And even as the story descends into cool and withdrawn, the video maintains a peculiar power of familiarity and intimacy. Very nicely done.
