Video: Gizmo – “Love Song #3″ (Meshell Ndegeocello Cover)

We met bassist and singer Gizmo last year at HarlemStage when he was part of the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble shredding it up. To our surprise, we recently also found that homeboy is also a singer – and a pretty good one, at that. The 21-year old does a marvelous job above at covering Meshell Ndegeocello’s “Love Song #3.” Quite rad to see a dude singing her parts – it works well. Big kudos to Gizmo.

Gizmo also recently released his Derrick Hodge (Robert Glasper Experiment) produced debut album, Red Balloon, which features a gang of dope artists including Casey Benjamin (Robert Glasper Experiment / Q-Tip), Jamire Williams, Anna Wise of Sonnymoon, amongst several others.

Earlier today, miss Janelle Monae unveiled a new tune from a fellow Wondaland artist Roman GianArthur. And man, is the guy a talent. The above is his new track that mashes together D’Angelo’s “Send It On” with Radiohead’s “High & Dry.” Freakin’ sexy. What the hell.

Dude sounds like a blend between Van Hunt, Bilal, and some fresh ‘n new radio R&B youngin’. Can’t compete with that. Oh, we mention that ol’ boy over here also produced the track? No biggie.

Video: Jimmy Fallon & Florence Welch – “Balls In Your Mouth” (Live)

Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine recently lent her haunting vocals to a little jaunt on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The tune is a protest song the lovely Mr. Fallon wrote in protest of the BP oil spills. For shame! Apparently they may be missing the fact that you could end up with “Balls In Your Mouth.” Catch Florence around the 2:20 mark.

After delighting us with their previous single, “Creeping,” sister alt-pop duo 2:54 are out with a new tune! The track is a cover of Seal’s 90s classic tune, “Killer” – hearing some nice parallels with The XX a la the echoey dreamy rock style. Stream that below.

About a month ago, the ladies also released an equally evocative video for “Sugar.” Nothing like some sexytime via neon lights, smoke, and shadows. Loving the nostalgic vibe to these jams! Watch above.

Catch 2:54 on tour beginning next month!

Singer/songwriter Tanya Lacey pays homage to one of her favorite vocalists, Mary J. Blige, with this rendition of “No More Drama.” Before going into her performance, Tanya breaks down her respect for Mary as well as her personal appreciation for the song. Loving our girl’s cotton candy hair and makeup thing she got going on, too!
