In her first release since her From Her Eyes collection of covers two years ago, Mara Hruby celebrates the anniversary with yet another cover from a popular male artist. Stripping it down to an acoustic performance, Mara lets her sultry voice shine for her rendition of "Simply Beautiful" by Al Green. Shivers for days. Stream and download below!
And yes, an album of original material is coming - sit tight.
Inspired by the earth-shattering rendition by Lalah Hathaway for Robert Glasper's most recent project, our girl Siaira Shawn put her own spin on Sade's "Cherish The Day." Siaira boldly sings a cappella and lets her sweet voice shine in this heartfelt, intimate performance.
And yes, you can definitely expect new music from Siaira this year along with more little treats like this one - can't wait!
Yeah. Couldn't stop listening or watching. The Bamboos are out of the world with this performance and Kylie Auldist has some voodoo powers with that voice, for real. Certain covers bring a whole new life to a track and just thrust you into a world of wonder. We found ourselves ruminating on the possibilities of all the beautiful varied versions that can be birthed from great songwriting. Frank Ocean, how we love thee.
Awesome version of "Lost." And it is pretty fantastic to hear our gal sing about titties - we agree.
Just having released her debut album a couple months back, Selah Sue sat down with us to talk about her journey and her influences that led up to Selah Sue the album. Selah also shared a backstage ritual, a memorable phone call, and a live rooftop performance, amongst other juicy bits. So endearing this young starlet is - so glad we got to catch up!
Giant Step contributor Maiya Norton kicks off this new exclusive video series, Covers, on our Tribeca rooftop. Many thanks to our film man, Rashid Zakat as well.
Be sure to catch Selah on tour supporting Allen Stone and Walk Off The Earth!

We met bassist and singer Gizmo last year at HarlemStage when he was part of the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble shredding it up. To our surprise, we recently also found that homeboy is also a singer - and a pretty good one, at that. The 21-year old does a marvelous job above at covering Meshell Ndegeocello's "Love Song #3." Quite rad to see a dude singing her parts - it works well. Big kudos to Gizmo.
Gizmo also recently released his Derrick Hodge (Robert Glasper Experiment) produced debut album, Red Balloon, which features a gang of dope artists including Casey Benjamin (Robert Glasper Experiment / Q-Tip), Jamire Williams, Anna Wise of Sonnymoon, amongst several others.
